JaVale McGee has been the target of “Shaqtin A Fool” for years, and he is completely fed up with it.
Now that he’s actually started playing well as a member of the Warriors, he feels like he shouldn’t be a part of the act anymore. After all, it’s not very fun to be on the show that makes fun of your basketball skills on a weekly basis.
McGee’s frustrations reached a high point following Thursday night’s edition of “Inside the NBA” when the production crew released a fantastic “Doctor Strange” trailer, featuring all of McGee’s lowlights.
McGee and Shaq are both naturally goofy people, so all of this could be tongue in cheek. But McGee’s frustrations could be real since most of the highlights used in the trailer were from several years ago. He’s improved as a player, and is tired of still being featured despite not having new content.
The memo, obtained Monday by ESPN.com, warns teams will suffer “significant penalties” if they don’t provide notice before a player will sit due to rest. The issue, commissioner Adam Silver wrote, will be debated at the next NBA Board of Governors meeting April 6.
Silver also wrote in the memo he believes it’s wrong for owners to defer decision-making on resting players to others within the franchise, who may not understand the impact it has on fans, sponsors, league reputation and “perception of our game.”
